Osy Ejiofor; The State Of Government Infrastructure in Uzo-uwani L. G. A.

By Osy Ejiofor.

Uzo-uwani, alphabetically is the last Local Government Area in Enugu State. The irony behind this placement is that it has affected virtually every aspect of her growth and economic development. The most horrendous issue is that Uzo-uwani is indisputably the food basket of Enugu State. The people of this local government are primarily farmers producing and exporting rice in large quantities, garden egg, yam, pepper, okro, garri and palm oil across the states of the federation.

It is needless to naysay the economic relevance of Uzo-uwani and her people. That would amount to injustice and mans inhumanity against another.
Uzo-uwani people live in nucleated settlements, in an organised communal cohabitation. Due largely to this, the people here have linking roads that connect to the state-built roads through which they walk to the market to sell their farm products. These roads were once smoothly traveled on by cars but one can hardly walk on them these days especially now that we are in rainy season. Case study is the road leading from Asaba to Igga and Ojor communities. This road as I pen this is in abysmal state. It is muddy, eroded and messed up with gullies.

Away from Asaba, moving up to Nsukka-Onitsha Expressway are about four collapsed high-tension electric poles by a probable wind storm, shunting the beneficiaries from enjoying electricity. At Ogurugu Road Adani is located the communitys Health Centre. There in the compound is a collapsed storage tank of the bore-hole built by the government. People of this community enjoyed this water project when it was functional but their joys have been cut short by the stormy wind that pulled down the tank.

There are lots of other governments infrastructures across the state in deplorable conditions due to lack of proper maintenance and management, abuse, and neglect. The essence of this essay is to awaken our conscience for the onus of proper use and management of these infrastructures are on the shoulders of all and sundry. It wishes also to draw the attention of relevant and concerned government agencies on the need for urgent repair and rehabilitation of the available government infrastructure in Uzo-uwani.

Focus on Uzo-Uwani; The Untold Story.

Taking a close look at the level of developments by the present administration in Uzo-uwani Council, it seems we are working but at a retard rate. The level of performance put forth is not commensurate with the amount of resources received to prosecute those programmes, which has persistently made some quarters of the council to demand for "accountability".

Uzo-uwani LG is no doubt one of the Local govt in Enugu State that receives a huge and sizable allocation plus high percentage in Internally generated revenue, but the Council is still in it abysmal state. The Local Government cannot boast of a single Commercial Bank, Nor a Reputable HealthCenter or Hospital, no High Capacity Market in other to Sale their Farm produce, yet it prides itself as the food basket of the state. The LG Boss, Hon Cornel Onwubuya many said is working, but need to up the ante. "We need more speed" said an anonymous LG staff. Majority of the roads which was said to be budgeted for is yet to be started, let alone ready to be commission and his tenure will expire in less than 5months.

Many School of Opinion shared that Hon, Onwubuya should be a Candidate of EFCC in other to detail the Agency, on how he used the Council Funds during his Reign As the Mayor. Uzo-uwani Voices gathered that Uzo-uwani Council is among the Under-developed council in Enugu State and South-East state. When Uzo-uwani Voices Correspondents interviewed some people in the Council to assess the performance of the LG Boss, Many Where Visibly Angry as how the Chairman will neglect all the project he promise to embark upon. They call on the state Govt to help them. They also demanded for Accountability in the system. "Let anyone that steal public money be jailed".

Adada Dam- Contractor Resumes work

By Editor

After months of Neglect, the Adada Dam project contractors have rushed to site to complete a project worth over #2.5 Billion. The Dam is located at the Adada River, in Nkpologu Community of Uzo-uwani LG. The Dam was abandoned by the Contractors before the end of last administration but sources closed to Uzo-uwani Voices said that the Fear of Buhari "Buhariphobia" made them to rush back to site to avoid being hunted by the EFCC. Nkpologu is the Home of Sen. Chuka Utazi representing Enugu North. Photos later...
